In our recent session, we landed over 50 carp, with four absolute beasts breaking the 18kg mark. It was an unforgettable experience, and I’m thrilled to share one of my favorite catches with you—a lean, majestic royal Mirror carp. Unlike the pot-bellied monsters we often see, this beauty has a more streamlined, full form that really stands out. It’s the kind of fish you remember for a lifetime. I’m not sure how often it gets caught, but the joy on my face in the photo says it all!

Unfortunately, this particular fish didn’t make it into the new film—because during the session, I was hit with a nasty bout of sickness, leaving me unable to eat for two days and struggling on the bank. But even as I lay in my bedchair, shaking and shivering, I reminded myself to stay strong. I mean, I had a top-of-the-range bedchair and a monster Nash sleeping bag—it was hard not to feel grateful! I pushed through, and despite my rough start, I eventually caught up with the other lads who were landing carp after carp.

We made it look easy, but trust me, it wasn’t all smooth sailing—except for the carp! Massive, sofa-sized carp kept coming out of the swims, especially from the Channel swim and Trees swim, where the Spanish team fished eight rods and hauled in some serious catches, including a surprise grass carp!
