It’s no new concept but now a day, in the UK market you come across plenty of artificial baits. I have not had much interest in artificials un-till recently, when I noticed The Enterprise Baits Imitation Bread (in the UK), for about £2.25 a packet.
In Spain we generally dont see products like this in the shops, actually in Madrid to my knowledge we don’t have too many quality shops other than Carpones online and Assassin which sell a range of Carp products, but being honest the baits and some of the items in Assassin are ancient, and as dry as a Badgers, possibly rendering them void.
Carpones is defiantly a top shop with good prices and things stored properly, but to my knowledge none of shops here stock artificial baits like – Imitation Bread. Also press wise these products don’t see the light of day so I thought I would give them a mention here, even if this does mean leaking information about a potentially deadly Carp bait!
In Madrid we have just a few waters which permit a floating crust type presentation, but we do have some including my old favourite in San Martin and the Juan Carlos Primero. I have seen threads online about French Carp not taking bread off the top; something of a generalization, which I find hard to agree with!
After all Carp feed depending on environment, put a fish from a big lake in small water where lot’s of people throw bread and sooner of later that fish will take the bread from the top. A natural survival instinct will always drive fish to find food, no?
Spanish Carp will and do take bread from the surface and on two venues this week I will be out testing this artificial bread to the max. I must admit I do have reservations about the bait, but it does seem extremely buoyant soft and strong, which should ensure it stays firmly on the hook during casting which will cut down baiting times and therefore allow me more time with bait in water.
According to the official press release for this product – it can be cut or torn into chunks to expose the fluffy, sponge like interior that will readily absorb a liquid flavour. I won’t be adding a flavour this time, just some spirit and flare for putting the bait under the nose of a fish or 10.
I will let you know how it goes and what we pull out, as soon as I have something to show you.
Tight lines.
