Carp Repellers?

Whilst fishing here in Spain I have been using insect repellant to keep flies and mosquito’s at bay. One point which might be worth bearing in mind for those of you thinking of fishing in Spain and using a repellant is to make your mix’s for spods, funnel web, method feeder and other before using any physical repellant.

I say this as cleaning your hands in water most probably wont remove the toxic and rather intentionally long lasting, N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide, N,N-diethyl-3-methylbenzamide or (DEET) which remains the gold standard of some 50 million insect repellants sold the world over. DEET by design tends to be very resistant average 8 of protection.

Can you imagine the side effects of having these toxic insecticides on your hands, therefore getting them onto your hook bait, Boilies, method mix etc?

The only other option I can think of is Citronella, Citronella is an active ingredient most commonly found in «natural» or «herbal» insect repellers, you could buy a long lasting outdoor Citronella Mini Patio Bucket Candel from someone like Wax and Wane their candels will last a minimum of 22 hours max of 85, so perfect for a weekend of fishing or night session.

Simply light it up and keep it in your brolley or bivy, it’s goto be worth a try, especially as the other way Carp could sense the the toxic repellants from your hands or spray, which in turn would render your fishing unproductive / truly hindered!
