Luxury Carp fishing in Spain with Peter Staggs

Last week I finally managed to go fishing with Peter Staggs in Ruidera.

I was both curious and excited about meeting Peter and fishing in Ruidera, after all Peter has played a large part in helping advance Carp fishing in Spain.

in 1996 Peter founded the 1st specialist Carp tackle shop in Spain El Carpon, since then he has written articles for the Spanish fishing magazine Trofeo Pesca, and other UK based magazines like Carp World , so he’s not your average Joe.

This trip was not all about fishing, because I was with my family, so absorbing the atmosphere, eating the local produce, (manchego cheese), scanning the area for swims, and evaluating the place for future sessions, whist enjoying a break was!

I can now firmly say, Ruidera once known as «The Mirrors of La Mancha», is an impressive place, and I fully understand why Peter has moved his family into the area. The fishing, bird spotting and wildlife is really impressive, and as a keen twitcher myself it was great to talk with Peter about the various birds he had taken photos of and spotted locally, birds like the Eagle Owl and the colorful Roller to name but two!

As I said fishing was not my highest priority, but we did get time to make a night session. We fished one of Peters pre-prepared private swims, with the use of a boat, the rods were at a range of up to 250m (6 rods in total) 2 each for me Peter and his son William. During the night we received no action, but I was really not bothered, after all if you’re not in it you cannot win it, and a blank session, with someone like Peter makes me think that now I am know one step closer to some kind of special fish.

For me the experience of this luxury session with all the amenity’s you could never normally ask for on a normal night session was just the ticket to wet my appetite for a return visit, which I expect to do after this summer.

Just how Peter can deliver the impossible i.e. luxury night fishing, one can only guess, after all night fishing in the majority of Spain is not allowed, however with Peter you are able to night-fish and enjoy many luxuries like a bathroom, 24 hour bar, and in some pegs even a shower!

Ok, this is not available on all swims, but your how does your own restaurant sound while doing fishing, bizarre, perhaps but nevertheless with Peter this could be an option.
He has achieved this I imagine by putting in much time, several negotiations, meetings, and allot of hard work.

If you want to fish Ruidera at night, you can do this with Peter, and why wouldn’t you want too, he’s a gentleman and a scholar, with more experience fishing this area than most probably anyone else. For the ultimate luxury and specimen fishing I would recommend you give Peter a try…
