Why do Carp Jump?

There are various theory’s as to why Carp jump, some say it’s for joy; I like to believe that, others for insects, or for oxygen.

I found something on an American Bass forum, which referred to Silver Carp and Bighead Carp rather than the Common and Mirror Carp, but from a Scientific line they more or less state – Carp are primarily bottom feeders, they eat food by sucking in what is in front of them, whilst doing this both food particles and large quantities of bottom debris passes through their gills, the sediment particles from the lake get stuck on the gills and interfere with the flow of water for respiration. Carp sense this clog up and jumping is a method of flushing / cleaning the gills to remove the accumulated debris.

Hay varias teorías en cuanto al porque del salto de la Carpa. Algunos dicen que es de alegría; me gusta creer esto, otros para coger insectos, o para tomar oxígeno.

Encontré un foro Americano del Bass, en donde se refirian a la Carpa de la Plata y la de Bighead en vez que la Carpa Común y Royal. Sin embargo, podemos usar esta línea Científica, la cual menciona que el alimento localizado principalmente en el fondo de las aguas, es tomado por el pez, pudiendo a la vez aspirar a traves de sus agallas partículas de alimento y cantidades grandes de escombros, localizadas alrededor de el. Estos escombros son partículas de sedimento del lago que pueden bloquear la normal respiración del pez. En conclusion, ellos dicen que el pez puede saltar como método para limpiar sus agallas de los escombros o particulas acumuladas.
